For a character design project on the theme of the Hundred Years’ War, I created a character named Arthur, a blacksmith working at the castle of Caen.
During his time, he forged many weapons, including miretons. In this scene, Arthur is inspecting his work after striking it with his hammer.
The main light source comes from the forge, illuminating the scene from the background. A secondary, softer light from daylight adds to the mood, while the glow of the mireton contrasts and lights up his face and the rest of his body.
For the color keys, I primarily used brown, a significant color for blacksmiths. I also incorporated blue for his clothing and yellow to represent the firelight.
This project truly captivated me, and I feel I’ve improved in character design compared to my previous project.
